SILGA BOSS PROMISES ADEQUATE SECURITY AS HE INAUGURATES BOARD.








The Caretaker  Committee Chairman of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, Hon. Joshua Macaiver, has directed members of the Caretaker Committee to submit to his office, on or before 5th  of May, 2016 a paper on the security situation in their wards  and how they intend to secure them in view of the increasing rate of kidnapping and sea piracy in the area.

The Chairman gave the directive in Oporoma, the council headquarters, while swearing-in the Political Secretary, Hon. Sitwell Clement Maclin, and the 17 Caretaker Committee members.

Hon. Macaiver said that this would enable the Council Security Committee to produce a Security Master Plan on how to tackle the increasing spate of insecurity in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area. The Chairman also stated that he would hold weekly security meetings with security agents in the Council, with a view to curbing the high rate of kidnapping and sea piracy in the area.

The Chairman stated that security was a serious business and collective effort was required to manage the situation and enjoined the newly sworn-in members to work hard to make their wards safe. The council boss expressed concern that lives and property were no longer safe in the area, adding that as a responsible government, the local government leadership would take proactive measures to curb the increasing rate of kidnapping and sea piracy in area.

The  Chairman who also urged everybody to make sacrifice to move the Council to the next level in the face of the precarious economic situation, promised to bring back the activities of the Council to Oporoma, the Headquarters of the Council.

In the area of agriculture, the Chairman said he would give priority to cultivation of rice and cassava, which the LGA has a comparative advantage.

Responding on behalf of the Caretaker Committee members, Hon. Ebibodei Theophilus said they were mindful of the security challenges facing the Council and assured the Chairman that they would do their best to secure their wards, stressing that their ultimate task was to ensure that peace reigns in Southern Ijaw LGA.

In his remark, the Political Secretary, Hon. Sitwell Maclin, promised to work with the Chairman to realize the vision of the Council, noting however, that he was aware of the harsh economic situation and pledged to do his best.

Besides the Political Secretary, Hon. Sitwell Clement Maclin, others sworn-in are Ozogu Ditorudonkumo, Myson Izonebi, Prince Ikeinka, Festus Toru,  Digenene Amabebe, Eridel Amakiri, Richman Theophilus, Labo Adams, Whyte Okpoba, and Ebifie Ati. Others are Ebitimi Owou, Millionia Gboro, Mark Agada,Joseph Baghebo, Fietabara Yabinanaghan, Efamughe Ayibadeinyefa, and Orumo Emmanuel. They were sworn-in by Magisterate A.S. Asuku.

The Chairman also received a volunteer group which performed sanitation duties in the Local Government Secretariat, and consequently, directed the coordinator of the group to meet with the Vice Chairman to prepare a list of 40 women and 20 men, promising to pay them at the end of the month.
