2019: Lamido indicates interest in Presidential race

Former governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido

The former governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido, yesterday voiced his interest to vie for the presidential position if he gets the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket in 2019.
Lamido spoke on the issue while fielding questions from journalists in his country home, Bamaina in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area.

The former governor, who advised the All Progressives Congress (APC) members to join the PDP in order to cleanse the former ruling party since they were “self-acclaimed saints”, said he had good relationship with the incumbent governor, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, despite their political differences.

He said: “If offered the ticket of the PDP in 2019, I will thank God Almighty and thank those that saw in me the elements that I have something to offer to Nigeria. So, I will take it.
“We cannot stop the APC from dreaming. They are free to dream. I have been saying rather than me joining them, since they said we are a party of devils, why can’t they come as saints and cleanse us. Let them come and purify us. It is as simple as that.

“There is no rift between the former governor and the current governor. We are the best of friends. But when it comes to politics, it is beyond Sule Lamido and the governor, Badaru. You know there are political activists around him and there are those around me. By and large, they try to determine the direction the wind will blow.”
