- It's time for dialogue

ABUJA: Following the current resurgence of militancy in the Niger delta region, a group known as "Niger Delta Young Lawyers Forum" which is an indigenous cluster of Nigerian Lawyers of the Niger Delta extraction, is set to hold a Niger Delta peace summit, with the theme " Niger delta youths are wiser".

According to the statement from the group National coordinator, Barrister Igbeta Ayebakuro Itari, he said " for the integrity of our Nation, the boro for peace sensitization/orientation seminar, the program is aimed at galvanising well meaning interstellar in the build-up to and realization of the National Presidential Amnesty Scheme in 2012, In keeping with the peace, security and National Integrity of the Nigerian State, in this view, we have formed the legal plak of several ex - militants under this noble scheme from representation to legal advice; This is in keeping with our constitutional roles under the Nigerian Constitution, and under relevant extant laws".

The group which also said during it's press briefing in Abuja, maintained that It's mission is to sustain peace and national integrity, the group in it's statement also condemned the renewed militancy in the Niger delta region, insisting that the frolic of the Niger Delta Avengers, and other armed militant groups are in no way a representation of the interest of the Niger Delta People, the group further said that the activities of the militants stand in colossal back - lash to Niger delta people and it's  environment.

The group coordinator, Barrister Igbeta Ayebakuro Itari, further said " we additionally take exception to the renewed militancy which seeks to malign and the undermine the Nigerian State, in view of our agenda, having carefully reviewed the Amnesty Programme under rtd Gen. Paul Boroh,  we have satisfied ourselves that the present administration means well both for the region and the Amnesty scheme, more than ever before, we consider very timorously and apt this inter - state regional seminar geared towards dissuading the gradual exodus of Youth back to the creeks. Additional to reinstating our implicit confidence in the Gen.Paul Boroh led Presidential Amnesty Programme, it seeks vociferously to call Youths to abandon all forms of criminality in the interest of the Region, National Economy and our fast eroding eco system"

The group therefore urged all militants groups to drop their arms and embrace peace, they called on all youths in the Niger Delta to come out and be a part of the seminar, which is scheduled to hold ' 10am, 11th June 2016" at the NUJ press Centre, Azikoro road, Ekeki-Yenagoa, Bayelsa state.
