BAYELSA TRADERS LAMENTS ON TOMATOES SCARCITY

YENAGOA– Due to the fungi 'tuta absoluta' that has attacked tomatoes growth in Northern Nigeria. Tomatoes has become a scarce commodity in the market.

Tomatoes are no longer within the reach of the ordinary man in Bayelsa as the few quantities available in markets across the state capital cannot meet up the demands of the people, and are also sold at cut throat prices to consumers.

Bodmasnews.com gathered information which reveals that many residents of Yenagoa have therefore resorted to the use of tin tomatoes, perm kernels (Banga), Vegetables while augmenting with the little quantity of fresh tomatoes they can afford to buy

Traders have attributed the blame to the poor supply from Northern Nigeria and also failure of the people of the south to plant the crop, they complained that it has never been this bad in the history of the country.

Information gathered also revealed, that Apple is now cheaper to buy than tomatoes, this is because, two small balls of tomatoes is sold at the rate of #100.

The Yenagoa traders therefore urged the Government to help improve on the situation.
