" THE GOOD FIGHT OF FAITH "

So many professing Christians today unfortunately do not understand that the Christian race is a fight. No wonder some of us are at ease in Zion.

Amos 6:1 KJV
[1] Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came!

In the New Testament, Zion is used to refer to the church of God. In other words we are at ease in Zion when we are not fighting the good fight of faith, when we are not committed as Christians, when we are not striving to enter heaven through the narrow way and strait gate, when we are not careful to live a holy and sanctified life, when we are not given to converting the unbelieving through preaching of the gospel.

Every Christian is a soldier of Christ. As a result we have been called to wage war against satan and his kingdom in all ramifications. It is for this reason that the scriptures have it clearly written that we should fight the good fight of faith.

1 Timothy 6:12 KJV
[12] Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.

If we do not do this fight till the end, it is certain that eternal life will elude us.
Our Father in heaven is a man of war. As His children therefore we have His nature and have to be like Him.
Exodus 15:3 KJV
[3] The Lord is a man of war: the Lord is his name.
The bible says of Him, that He teacheth our hands to war, and our fingers to fight.         (Psalm 144:1).

Because the Christian is a soldier, he must remain focused and have his eye on the ball always. This is about the only way, he can continuously remain in this fight of faith without compromise.

2 Timothy 2:4 KJV
[4] No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.
The above scripture is a call for separation from worldliness and worldly pleasures as that is a major distraction for most Christians, and has prevented many who started well from making it or enduring to the end. Jesus our Master is he that has called us. He is looking for soldiers who will be committed to the very end. Will you be counted as one of them.?

Our consolation and comfort in this is that we are not alone in this race. Our other brethren the world over are faced with the same temptations from the devil, hence we are told to resist him steadfast in the faith.
1 Peter 5:8-9 KJV
[8] Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: [9] Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

In order to be effective in this fight, we must put on the whole armour of God to be able to stand the wiles of the devil.
Ephesians 6:11-13 KJV
[11] Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. [12] For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places . [13] Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

It will not be right to conclude this message without reminding us that the weapons of our warfare are not carnal. In other words, they are not physical, but spiritual, they are mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds.

2 Corinthians 10:4-5 KJV
[4] (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) [5] Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

St. Jude counselled us to earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints of God ( Jude 3 ). We should not compromise the preaching and teaching of the word as of old and also let people see Christ in our lives as a result.
