LIBERALIZATION POLICY: NUPENG, PENGASSAN BACK FG
The Natural Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) as well as their senir staff union (PENGASSAN) have thrown their weights behind the new policy of petroleum sector liberalization announced by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr Ibe Kachikwu.
Speaking on Channels Television breakfast programme, Sunrise Daily NUPENG Mr Igwe Achese ,President of NUPENG said, his union who attended a meeting with the government prior to the policy announcement supports the liberalisation.
'We had raised issued as far back as 2010 regarding a situation where government claims to be subsidizing a product and all the money was entering the pockets of individuals and not getting to the real target. Lets just do this and get it behind us'
Asked by one of the anchors of the programme Mr Chamberlain Usoh, if the price regime wil not affect workers, he said : ' that where the emphasis should be now- fighting for a reasonable pump price to make it affordable and negotiations on wages to buffer the initial pain.'
Mr Kachickwu announced new measure sin the the supply distribution and management of PMS which involves opening the importation for any willing importer who can meet product standards, and selling at 'not more than N145 per litre'
Achese said PENGASSAN is on the same page with NUPENG in support of the new government policy.
