DEPUTY GOVERNOR SAYS NYSC SCHEME WAS ESTABLISHED TO FOSTER UNITY.

Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah (rtd), has said that apart from the Military, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Scheme is the the most cohesive group established to foster unity in Nigeria.

The deputy governor said this in his office in Government House, Yenagoa, when he granted audience to the Director-General of the NYSC scheme, Brigadier-General Suleiman Kazaure who was in the state on a facility tour and inspection of the NYSC Orientation Camp at Kaiama.

According to him, aside the drilling of Youth Corps members on the rudiments of parade during the orientation programme, discipline is also instilled in them at the orientation camp.

On the request by the Director-General for the state government to provide a utility vehicle, relocation of the NYSC State Secretariat to a more befitting office complex as well as release of subventions for the State Office, the deputy governor assured that the state government will do something when the economy of the state improves.

Earlier, the Director-General of the NYSC, Brigadier-General Suleiman Kazaure, said that he was in the state to visit the orientation programme that was ongoing in the state and thought it expedient to pay a courtesy call on the state government.

Brigadier-General Kazaure also commended the state government for building the best permanent Orientation Camp in the country and solicited for more support from the government.

Dignitaries present during the courtesy call were Chief Serena Dokubo-Spiff, Secretary to the State Government; Dr. Peter Singabele, Head of Service, Commissioners of Information and Orientation, Hon. Jonathan Obuebite; Education, Deacon Markson Fefegha; Youths Development, Chief Collins Cocodia; Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mrs. Ebizi Ndiomu-Brown; amongst others.
